Backup
Question 1 - Backup mix:
- Which three points would you deem the most important when constructing a
catastrophe plan.
- For those of you that has the responsibility for a network or access to
one: investigate what backup medium is being used (tape, disks
) and set up
the backup plan for your network. Include the retention policy and evaluate the
plan considering the contents of this lesson
From an exam 18.05.95:
Question 2 (weight 15% of a 5-hour exam)
- A short description of to different firms/institutions. As the
EDB-consultant you have been given the task of sketching out a backup strategy
for these. The task is to formulate three different backup strategies for each
one, with differing thoroughness. You will have to consider the description of
each one below and your own assumptions to find each institution's need for
security, and range the three different alternatives for their thoroughness.
There will totally be six different strategies. Assume that all the networks are
Novell 3.11.
- Trondheim Torg is a shopping centre that uses network stations in
every store. The network is primarily used to communicate between the shops and
the board of leaders. Information about sales and the employees is stored on a
central server. There are a total of 25 different workstations and one file
server in the network. One of the employees has been assigned the title of
network administrator in 50 % of his working time. Assume that every employee
themselves has the responsibility for backing up their own workstation.
- Trondheim Psychiatric Hospital has a network with disk less
workstations. The network is use to store information about patients, and for
communication between the doctors and other employees to evaluate the patients
situations. There are a total of 89 workstations, two fileservers and two
network administrators in the network.
b) Imagine you being the system administrator for a network with 25 nodes.
You get a note from the board that they will employ ten more people, and
therefore the network will be expanded to support 35 nodes. What upgrades might
you end up having to do?
