The Lesson in focus

Several categories of student participate in this type of course, ranging from those who attend educational institutions and are studying other subjects as well, to those students who work alone from their homes using a telephone and a modem.

This last category especially requires a structured, pro-grammed and thoroughly planned course, as the students operate alone without any support in their local environment.

Therefore a method has been devised based on weekly lessons containing the following components:

For most of the subjects, the course lessons and exercises are composed on a standard word processor (NITOL has settled on MSWord as the standard word processor). The length of the course lessons typically ranges from 5 to 20 pages.

Such lessons are distributed across the net each week, and a subject typically comprises 12 such lessons.

For each lesson the teacher will also utilise the newsgroups and stimulate activities, for example by posting questions or ideas inviting a response, and hopefully also answering student questions and taking part in student-initiated discussions
